A MASSAGE ISN’T JUST RELAXING

How many times do you hear, “Man, I need a massage!”? Getting a massage doesn’t mean going to the spa. Especially when you have an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist) treating you. Most importantly, having an RMT treat you is covered by your insurance!

At a spa, you’ll receive a relaxing massage. However, if your body aches, this treatment won’t resolve any preexisting issues. You’ll come off the table with the same pain as when you climbed on. Thus dismissing massage therapy all together.

CAN I TRUST AN RMT?

Registered Massage Therapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario. All RMTs are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). The requirements of holding this title includes: the complete study of the anatomy, physiology, pathology, physical assessment, neurology, treatments, ethics and other subjects. In addition, the RMT must have done 150 clinical hours, successfully completed a plethora of examinations administrated by CMTO, and required to maintain their registration by participating in continuing education to maintain high professional standards and quality of care. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Besides being relaxing, massage helps the body in the following ways: reduces stress, helps lower blood pressure, promotes muscle relaxation, improve circulation, improve posture, and help strengthen the body’s immune system. The main purpose of massage therapy is to target the source of the body’s pain by eliminating tense muscles, improve flexibility, and provide relaxation to the affected muscles as well as the body as a whole. Blood circulation increases nutrients and oxygen to the damaged tissues, thereby promoting healing and reduce stiffness and swelling. Ultimately, massage helps alleviate pain.

Moreover, this form of therapy also releases endorphins (pain-killing hormones), which boost the dopamine and serotonin levels in the body. These hormones assist the body in many ways–physically as well as emotionally. Case in point, they promote healing, pain management, and feelings of euphoria, as well as help to calm the nerves. (2
